Topamax, Smopamax

With no blog posts and little online activity apart from Flickr and Twitter for the past month, I’d love to be able to blame this online absence on holiday merriment and the such. Unfortunately it’s been largely due to a trial of a drug, Topamax, to combat my chronic headaches (diagnosed as New Daily Persistant Headaches).

The most common side effect of Topamax, which basically left me like a vegetable, is “cognitive dysfunction”. It’s a very broad term, but specifically (to borrow from wikipedia’s list) memory problems, confusion, psychomotor slowing (this is my favourite term on the list), dizziness, and inability to ponder any logical problem. There were a couple of other side effects but they were relatively tame by comparison. One might say I’m not too much of a fan of this medication.

I finished up the trial a little while ago, it was decided ineffective, just as I had to slowly increase the dosage, I had to slowly decrease the dosage until I was finally off it as of yesterday. I don’t feel entirely “all there” yet, but the difference is amazing.

I’m back baby.
