Another update on the PSU

Well, to put things blunty, I love Chickz0r.

She not only insisted that I borrow her PSU (400w version of mine), she also took in my PSU on her way home today, to get it covered under RMA.

She's fantastic…and spoils me.

Update on PSU

6 December 2006 Tags

Well, as I mentioned, my PSU is dead/dying.
I didn't get a response from CPL via email yesterday, so I called them up, after taking the PSU out (well, I just disconnected it from all peripherals/motherboard)….and it still made the noise.

I was told, at best, I can have a replacement by Monday if I drop it in today. Argh.

I contacted ASUS about the screen quality on my F3JP (grainy screen issue), and now they want me to post it to NSW!
So, my options are:

  • Buy new PSU
  • Wait for replacement PSU then ship the laptop
  • Send of PSU, send of Laptop, and cry because I won't even have a Wii…

Reduced to just one

That's right, I'm reduced to just one computer again.

My desktops power supply, an Antec Smart Power 2.0 500w, has begun making high pitched noises whenever power is connected to it.
A quick google shows that this is common when this PSU is about to die.
Obviously, with my headaches (and the risk of damaging the other components), I can't have my desktop on.

While its not such an issue now that I have a laptop, I've been away/busy for awhile, so I was really looking forward to some gaming - which is much better (smoother/etc) on the desktop.

Oh well, this gives me time to try out Expressions.

When will Wii learn?

Nintendo Wii
Without a doubt, Nintendo's Wii is making big splashes - I know I've preordered one…after playing it at the eGamesExpo, it was hard not to buy it.

The Wii is incredibly popular, to the point that you wonder why the Gamecube sucked so much (sales wise). The US is set to get 150,000 to 200,000 Wii's a week until the end of 2006. That's as many as 1.2million Wii's to the US alone.

But it makes you wonder, is it worth all this attention?

I mean, it certainly isn't an advanced system.

The Wii, really, is just a 'next gen' console, which is about the same as the PS2/Xbox - or 'last gen'.

So why is there the fuss? For the first time, since the launch of the Nintendo 64 and previous systems, we're looking at a games console - nothing more, nothing less. It plays games. That's it.

Compare that to the competition…

  • The XBox, XBox 360, PS2, PS3 all have DVD playback.
  • Xbox360 now has its HD-DVD addon
  • Xbox360 is Microsoft's 'media centre that isn't Windows Media Centre'
  • Playstation 3 is Sony's launch platform for Bluray

The paltry specifications of the Wii haven't stopped anybody from buying it.
Next Gen Wars tracks the sales info, estimating 1.1million Wii's are already out the door, while a paltry 300,000 PS3's have been taken home. (XBox360 has the obvious lead, but its also been out for a year longer).

At the end of the day, third party support will make or break the Wii. I'm rooting for make, unlike how it broke the GameCube.

Ouch?

According to the Doc, I was bitten by a white tail spider, on my left elbow.
For a few days, it was pretty sore, on Friday/Saturday I even get pains running down my arm, and into my hand, but thankfully, I'm on the mend.

Yay for drugs!
