Update #2: Launching Firefox as administrator, or disabling UAC, will fix this problem.

Update: Turns out you can at least change the Start Menu entry, if you Right Click on the Start Menu, Customize > Change 'Show on Start Menu' Internet Link to Firefox (or Opera, or whatever is installed). That doesn't effect whats your default browser, but its interesting none-the-less

..gets moosey vengence upon his head. Will's gone and stolen my blog entry idea.I'll throw in another picture, again, this is from the 'Default Programs' accessible via Control Panel or the Start Menu.Vista Vs Firefox (and others)
IE7 will not let up its hold on HTTP/HTTPS/FTP.5600 let me use firefox as my default browser (I didn't check those dialogs however), but since installing 5728 s'morning, I've had IE7 popup over and over. Will suggested that its intended behaviour - I'd lean towards bug, since 5600 was 'okay' for me.
At least Thunderbird took control successfully.

Will’s Blog - Vista and 3rd party Browsers… Microsoft playing unfair?

I have the same problem, I am looking for a way to fix it without formatting, Please let me know if you figure out the problem. I remember seeing a dialogue box while installing something awhile back, it said something about preventing other programs from changing my default browser. I really hate Microsoft's way of forcing me to use IE. This sucks. I think they do it for the banner ads. They have to get some kind of kick back from all the advertisers. I can block all these banner ads with FireFox.
